I would love to introduce you to Nele, from Belgium, our feature traveller of the month for November.
So, I'm Nele Verstraeten living in Oudenaarde, Belgium. I have one son who is four years old, a stepson who is nine and a stepdaughter who is 13. I'm currently studying to become a Medical Assistant but I first graduated as a Chef. So far I've travelled to 12 countries around the world. My last trip we went on a city trip to Middelburg, Netherlands. You can find me and my travels on Instagram as lifeasnele_
1. Why do you travel?
I'm a little nerd when it comes to culture and history so therefore I travel, I want to get to know the culture and history of people, their stories and how they live. Beside that I'm in love with mother nature.
2. Tell us your favourite: a place to visit, mode of transport and source to get travel info.
I think my favorite place to visit: Italy
My favorite mode of transportation: By foot
Favourite source of travel information: Ask the locals!
3. What is your favourite travel memory?
When I was 18 I decided to go exploring. So I took my backpack and leaved all alone for a month to South Afrika.
I just knew where I would sleep for the night but what I would see and how I would get from destination to destination, I didn't knew.
It was the best trip of my life.
4. What's the most important thing you've learned while travelling?
Be grateful of what you have, enjoy every moment en take care of our beautiful planet.
5. Who would you love to sit next to on your next flight?
Jim Carrey, I would just laughing my ass of the whole flight
6. What's your best money-saving tip to travel?
Look for discount tickets on the internet before you leave, but when you're there. Ask the locals!
7. How do you deal with the post-holiday blues?
Already planning another trip haha. I also have books where I write en stick our memories in.
8. What's one thing you like to do in every place you visit?
Eat. Eating a lot! The local dishes, things we don't know at home and always trying to take some recipies with me back to home.
9. Travelling can leave a big environmental footprint, how do you minimise yours?
We're trying to travel as much as possible by foot and train when we're at our destination.
Also we always take our reusable drinking bottle with us and use as less as possible plastic.
10. Plan an around the world trip for us, stopping in one city only on each continent.
Bay of Islands, New Zealand - Sri Lanka, Asia - Tirol, Italy - Kenia, Afrika - Whale watching at the Artic coast - Rio, Brazil - Canada
