Top Tips For Taking Out Travel Insurance

One of the first things I do when I know the dates of my travels, even before booking flights, any accomodation or tours is to book travel insurance.

I personally would never travel without it. Mainly overseas travels but also depending upon where I am going within Australia as well.

Benefits of taking out travel insurance

  • It covers you if your mobile or wallet gets stolen, flights are delayed or if you have to cancel a holiday you had planned due to a medical emergency which was my case.

  • You are covered for unexpected additional expenses and accidents. You will be thankful you did get insurance. Any traveller will know that nothing goes to plan when you are travelling, there are always delays or mishaps along the way but that is what makes the holiday. It always makes for good stories to tell and share. The best holiday is often one that does not always go to plan.

  • If your bags are delayed, which does happen, and has happened to me. It will be couriered to your hotel. Insurance will cover you for any thing you may need to buy in the meantime while you wait for it to show. It could be one day or three days, you never know. Especially when it comes to some countries.

At times you claim on travel insurance

  • You will need a doctors certificate as evidence if it is a medical issue.

  • You will need a death certificate if it is tragedy related.

  • Always get a letter from the flight attendant to say your was delayed.

  • Get a police statement if something was stolen. You need evidence.

  • Keep receipts if have to buy/pay for something. Consider your $200 excess you will lose out on.
