Supporting Neighbourhood Initiatives

Whilst in lockdown, neighbourhoods are growing ideas to keep the community connected. Keeping the community spirit alive.

Last year the teddy bear in the window trend was a popular one. Families would place a teddy in their front window and as children were out on their daily walk, they would try to spot all the teddies in the window.

This year in my local area we have;

  • young boys who leave free children’s books and puzzles out the front of their home for others to take

  • Where’s Wally? posters have been hung by families in their front windows so children may go hunting to find Wally when out and about

  • Spoonville - where people paint wooden spoons with different characters and leave them in a certain area, usually a community garden or park creating a mini-village of spoons. There are plenty of ideas on Pinterest if you’re after some inspiration and check out this video for some ideas

  • Painted Rocks Treasure Hunt - community members are decorating rocks in creative ways and then hiding them around their neighbourhood. Families can join in by painting rocks or by searching for rocks that they can leave or claim as their own. For some inspiration when creating your own check out hvorrocks

Simple and effective ways to bring positivity to the community during this uncertain time. It is a great way to get our children off technology as well as keep them busy by getting involved with some painting. It is great to encourage your children to participate or simply explore what their community has to offer when out and about in the neighbourhood.

Has your family been getting into the community spirit and joining in the neighbourhood initiatives during this current lockdown? Is your neighbourhood doing anything in particular? We would love it if you joined the conversation and left a comment below.
