How To Be More Of Your True Self

My blog entails stories, tips and tricks on the topics of teaching, travelling and true self.

Teaching and travelling have always been my passions in life, yet mixed with that I have always enjoyed knowing that I am living out my life in a way that is true to my authentic self.

So how can you live more in alignment with your true self?

  • You must know who you are - What are your values? What do you stand for? What are your passions? The best way is to journal, listening to your inner voice. Having conversations with those close to you may help get down to the core and nitty-gritty of you

  • Listen to podcasts such as this great episode - How To Survive The Lowest Point of Your Life interview with Dr Shefali on The Marie Forleo Podcast

  • See yourself beyond the labels you may give yourself. We are more than our career, our relationships, our money, our bodies…

  • Be up for personal growth - read books such as The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer, The Resilience Project by Hugh van Cuylenburg and Becoming Supernatural by Joe Dispenza

  • Embrace the lows in your life instead of trying to escape them. Dr Shefali says ‘your deepest pain, fuels your greatest strength’.

  • Be aware of your triggers that bring your ego forth

  • Work on your sense of worth - love on yourselves, be your own best friend, pay attention to your self-talk and keep it positive

  • Laugh at yourself - do not take yourself too seriously

  • Stop your people-pleasing - take notice and pay attention to why you are doing it. Stop aiming to be perfect; there is no such thing. Fulfil your own needs first so you can be the best for others

  • Have a list of mantras to repeat i.e. life happens for me, not to me

  • Start living based on how you want to feel and you will naturally bring more into your life

  • Don’t give in to social pressure to keep up with others. Make your own decisions, use your own voice, hold your own opinion, do what makes you happy

  • Know that it is okay to change and evolve over time. You do not have to stick with the ideas and stories you told yourself at twenty now at the age of forty

  • Do things that flow. Do not force things to happen. Believing in divine timing and that the universe has your back, takes the pressure off you to make things happen

Living a life that is true to yourself can put you in the ‘different’ category. You may stand out or draw unintentional attention. Yet to me it is something to be respected and upheld. It is calming, grounding and soothing to have true deep conversations with people who know themselves.

How do you live your ‘true self’? We would love it if you joined the conversation and left a comment below.
