Traveller Profile - Tom Henty
I know it’s been awhile since we featured anyone in our traveller profile series, but we are back baby! I have a few lined up over the next couple of months. Starting us back up again is Tom, a fellow traveller, blogger, writer, an adventurer and creative.
Hello, my name is Tom, a keen traveller who runs a growing travel blog. This helps to tick that creativity box, along with constantly improving new skills such as SEO, writing and networking. I aim to add value to others through my experiences and knowledge.
I currently work as an Operations Manager in a growing online business in the UK, but I have various personal side projects that I am working on to help build more of a digital nomad life.
I have been lucky enough to visit 37 countries so far and have a lifetime goal of visiting over 100. My last destination was Marbella in Spain, with my next one being Jordan in June 2023, where I am visiting Petra, my third Wonder of the World.
You can keep up to date with my regular travel blogs at Tom Henty’s Travel, or on my Twitter or Instagram page.
1. Why do you travel?
To make the most of our short time on Earth. Not experiencing travel much in my childhood has created a deep underlying desire to explore as many destinations as possible.
2. Tell us your favourite: place to visit, mode of transport and source to get travel info.
South East Asia is my favourite place to visit, and I have another longer term visit on the horizon. Tuk tuks tick every box for the best transport as they bring you into the moment of appreciating different cultures. I get most of my travel info from fellow travel bloggers who have experienced the travel.
3. What is your favourite travel memory?
My first solo backpacking trip to the Balkans in 2022 is my favourite travel memory, where I ticked off Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Albania. This ten day adventure added several layers to my confidence and also helped to discover my purpose as a travel blogger
4. What's the most important thing you've learned while travelling?
Travelling has enhanced my curiosity levels through exploring different cultures. This has expanded my consciousness and ambitions.
5. Who would you love to sit next to on your next flight?
My ideal co-passenger is a like minded person who I could share a deep conversation with about our travels and experiences for the duration of the flight. I have been lucky enough to meet some great people in the most random places on my travels, leading to long term meaningful connections.
6. What's your best money-saving tip to travel?
My best money saving tip is to stay in shared hostels. I have found the savings to be considerate, while helping to keep interaction levels at a maximum.
7. How do you deal with the post-holiday blues?
Book another holiday ASAP, and write a blog or create some content on the trip to keep the destination fresh in my mind for longer.
8. What's one thing you like to do in every place you visit?
A new travel habit I have formed on recent trips is to rent a bike and explore off the beaten track. Personal highlights that I have discovered have been Es Vedra Rock in Ibiza and Sveti Stefan Island in Montenegro.
9. Travelling can leave a big environmental footprint, how do you minimise yours?
I am a very light traveller and only usually carry a small backpack regardless of travel time. This helps to reduce my carbon footprint.
10. Plan an around the world trip for us, stopping in one city only on each continent.
Tokyo > Lima > Cairo > San Francisco > Sydney > Rome
A mixture of bucket list cities and my favourite visited cities. Exploration into history rich destinations would be accompanied by the fascinating culture of Japan, beautiful Bondi Beach and a trip to Alcatraz.
Incredible Tom! I can relate to not travelling too much in my childhood and so making up for it now as an adult. Good luck hitting 100 countries. So much adventure awaits…
