Lockdown Educational Lives For Your Learners
If your students are currently learning from home, it is always good to spice up their program with a good old video where the children have to do nothing but watch.
The Department of Education have been releasing an Education Live video each morning at 10am this term. If you missed out, you can always go back and watch them at any time from their website. They are informative and engaging for students of all ages and run for approximately 20 minutes. Short and sharp with a variety of topics and guest speakers. My Year 3/4/5 students enjoy taking a break in our morning session to watch them and put into practice what they are teaching.
Whilst Taronga Zoo is currently closed they are streaming Virtual Zoo Lockdown Lessons a couple of times a week. In their sessions, Taronga Educators delve into a variety of animals, their habitats, needs, the challenges they face for survival and the amazing adaptations they possess. You must register and the school pays some $$ to access the link. My students have enjoyed them as you feel like you are at the zoo.
Sadly the Year 6 camp to Canberra has had to be cancelled for this year. However, there are many virtual tours the students can join, including Parliament House, Art Gallery and the Mint.
The Australian Reptile Park has live streams and educational videos every day at 2 pm via their Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok social pages. This week’s talks are on lace monitors, Tasmanian devils, Elvis the crocodile, skinks, and death adders. This has been great for my students, as most children are born in countries other than Australia, so they have been learning a lot and becoming more familiar with Australian animals.
SeaLife Sydney has Merlins Educational Toolbox which has more great animal videos for your students. Not live but your students can watch at anytime online.
Do you incorporate live videos into your online program? What has been a hit for your students this term? We would love it if you joined the conversation and left a comment below.
