Teaching From Your Heart

I love the quote ‘be the difference, that makes the difference’. It’s my mantra. It’s what I live by.

To be a real teacher, a teacher that makes a difference, a teacher that has an impact, you have to be passionate. You have to want more for your students, the best for your students. You need to see your work as ‘more than a job’.

You have to teach with your heart. Teach with love and compassion. You must be interested in your students. You must have high expectations and keep pushing and believing in each and every one. Don’t give up on them. They can get there. They will get there. With your encouragement, your enthusiasm, your belief and your teaching. You need to offer constructive criticism. You are not there to be a friend or even a dictator. But all feedback you give will help them to improve and make gains in their learning.

It’s fun being a teacher. It’s a powerful position to be in. It should not be taken for granted. It should not be abused. Teaching from your heart means your students know its okay to make mistakes. They know once they step into the classroom it is a safe place to be. They know they will be loved and built up. They will want to give their best in return. Can you picture the classroom? Happy children… content… encouraging each other… It is so rewarding to be part of and makes you look forward to each day. Each day is another opportunity to make a difference in a child’s life.
