Traveller Profile - JoJo

This month in our Traveller Profile Series we are featuring US girl, JoJo.

Hello, my name is JoJo Hall, and I am a part-time travel blogger and vlogger!

I’m a full-time social worker in the foster care system but I enjoy running my blog and YouTube channel on the side. I’ve traveled to eight countries, but I plan on visiting more in the future! In October of 2021, I took a solo road trip through New England to see awesome fall foliage and, fingers crossed, I’ll be able to travel to London in March of 2022!

You can find me on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, my blog, and YouTube.

Why do you travel?

This is a great question. I travel to explore new places, learn more about that location (its history, culture, customs, etc.), and create memories that will last a lifetime. I also travel as a form of self-care for my mental and physical health as well, as I do believe travel has so many benefits for your mind, body, and soul. I have a whole blog post on the benefits of wellness travel here.

Tell us your favourite: place to visit, mode of transport and source to get travel info.

My favorite place to visit is London. I love London so much and I can see myself traveling to London every year.

My favorite mode of transportation is walking if I can. I think it’s a great way to see and explore an area.

My favorite source to get travel information from are blog posts from fellow travel bloggers. What better way to get information on an area, both for personal experience and logistically, than from travelers who’ve visited that area?

What is your favourite travel memory?

My favorite travel memory is boarding my flight back in 2015 and arriving in London on September 1st. That was the day my dream came true (I’ve always wanted to visit London when I was younger) and it was the start of my amazing time studying abroad in England.

What's the most important thing you've learned while travelling?

The most important thing I’ve learned while traveling is to learn to be open and flexible to change. Sometimes, things don’t always go according to plan when you’re traveling and that means you must adapt to the situation at hand. The more flexible and adaptable you are, the better off you’ll be with change and making necessary decisions.

Who would you love to sit next to on your next flight?

I’d love to sit next to one of my followers or subscribers. I think it would be so cool to interact with them in person, get to know them more, and show my gratitude.

What's your best money-saving tip to travel?

My best money-saving tip for travel is to set aside some money from each paycheck (if you can) which will go towards your trip. It’s important to have a travel fund so you have the monetary means to fund your trip. No matter how big or small the amount you set aside, it all goes towards your travels. Every little bit counts. I’ve shared other tips on funding your travels in my blog post here.

How do you deal with the post-holiday blues?

Because I’m a full-time worker, I don’t really have the time to think or feel sad about the end of my vacation. I usually have a ton of work to catch up on, so I get right to work, and that usually distracts me. However, if I do get sad, I think about my upcoming trip and do all the planning, and research for that. It reminds me that travel is just around the corner.

What's one thing you like to do in every place you visit?

What I like to do in every place I visit is buy a souvenir. I love souvenirs because they remind me of the time I had traveling and exploring a particular location. I can’t go to a place, or leave it, without getting some type of souvenir.

Travelling can leave a big environmental footprint, how do you minimise yours?

When I travel, I try to minimize my environmental footprint by walking to places every chance I get, using a reusable water bottle, reusable straw, and a reusable bag.

Plan an around the world trip for us, stopping in one city only on each continent.

Love planning an around the world trip! Starting here in the USA (since I live here), I’d start in San Francisco because it’s a city I’ve never been to before. From there, I’d make my way to Bogota in Columbia in South America. I’d visit Prague in Europe, followed by Nairobi in Africa, Tokyo in Asia, and finally ending my trip in Sydney, Australia.

Thanks for sharing your travel experiences JoJo.
