Halloween Feely Bowl Fun

Halloween is not something I would usually celebrate or make a fuss of in the classroom since I live in Australia. To me, it is more of an American tradition. However, saying that, there is always fun to be had in the classroom revolving around feely boxes and having students touch weird, odd, gross things which for sure could be linked to the Science Curriculum somehow, plus, who doesn’t like some good old fun of a Friday afternoon.

There are a few things to gather up first including blindfolds. Keep in mind some food may need to be prepared the day before.

Explain to the students they have entered a haunted house and body parts have been left around the scene. As detectives, they must identify each body part, by touch only and record it on the worksheet provided.

The students should be blindfolded and can work in teams or individually. They feel what is in the bowl/box and must record what they think it may be. It is always more fun to make it as gross as possible. Some ideas you may like to use;

  • Eyeballs – Olives

  • Ears – Dried apricots

  • Fingers – Cheese sticks

  • Fingernails – Slivered almonds

  • Toes – Baby Carrots

  • Brain – Cauliflower

  • Teeth – Corn kernels

  • Heart – Peeled tomato

  • Nose – Canned pear halves

  • Tongue – Banana sliced longways

  • Hand – Rubber glove filled with flour

  • Guts – Cooked 2-minute noodles

  • Liver – Canned peaches

Regroup at the conclusion of the lesson and go through students’ predictions of each body part. How did they go?

Do you do anything for Halloween in your class each year? Have you tried a feely box idea before? How did it go? We would love it if you joined the conversation and left a comment below.
